National Night Out

Please note that this year's event scheduled for October 6, 2020 has been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.  We hope to see you again at next year's event.

The National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and the Port Neches Police Department invites you to participate in the National Night Out in Texas. National Night Out is usually observed the first Tuesday in August, but typically held during the month of October in Texas.

National Night Out is designed to:
1) heighten crime prevention awareness;
2) generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs;
3) strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
4) send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Originally, residents were encouraged to turn on their porch lights and gather with their neighbors to show unity against criminal activity. Now, most cities and towns in Texas celebrate National Night Out with neighborhood events such as block parties, cookouts, and visits from local law enforcement.

The Port Neches Police Department hosts the annual Port Neches National Night Out in Texas. The main event consists of a family-friendly movie and is held at the Port Neches Riverfront Park. In addition to the movie, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office normally has their helicopter on display prior to the movie. Tables are set up at the Pavilion with a S.W.A.T. display, Crime Stoppers and Neighborhood Watch program information. They will be distribute child I.D. kits, crime safety tips, gunlocks and other items for children.

The Port Neches Chamber of Commerce and other local business partners and volunteers serve hot links, popcorn and soft drinks before and during the movie.

In addition to the movie and other activities at the riverfront, residents are encouraged to organize their own block or neighborhood parties. These parties are a great way to get to know the people that live around you. If you are going to have a block party for this event, please notify the Police Department so that you can be added to the list of parties to be visited by first responders.

For additional information and to sign up your block party for a visit by local first responders, email pnpd@ci.port-neches.tx.us or call: 409-722-1424.
