General Information

We are family friendly and our VFW Post is smoke and alcohol free.  We also do not have a Bar or Cantina and we do not have Bingo.

We are a Veteran Community Service Organization that supports Youth Activities and Americanism through our annual Patriot Pen Essay Contest, Voice of Democracy Essay Contest, Citizen/Teacher of the Year, and Scout of the Year.

We attend Veterans Programs at the various schools in the Community and we visit our local schools to spend time in the classroom.

We have two main Veteran Programs that we conduct annually at Golden Triangle Veterans Memorial Park and they are for Veterans Day and Memorial Day. Please join us for these programs.

VFW Post 4820 helped build the Golden Triangle Veterans Memorial Park located on Highway 87 just before you get to Veterans Memorial Bridge in Port Arthur.

We also conduct periodic fund-raising events in order to continue assisting local Veterans and their families.

The Post unites with other area VFW Posts for Community Service Events.

Meeting Information

VFW Post 4820 Members, VFW Post 4820 Auxiliary Members, family, and invited guests are welcome to have dinner with us at 6:00 PM every second Thursday of the month.

Membership Requirements

There are three qualifiers for membership in the VFW, as set out in our By-Laws in the VFW Manual and as approved by Congress. An individual must meet all three in order to become a member. They are as follows:

  1. Citizenship – must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. National.
  2. Honorable Service – must have served in the Armed Forces of the United States and either received a discharge of Honorable or General (Under Honorable Conditions) or be currently serving.
  3. Service in a war, campaign, or expedition on foreign soil or in hostile waters*.
*This information is usually available through a veteran’s DD-214. If other information is needed or if a veteran’s DD-214 is not complete, they can contact the National Personnel Records Center online or at 314-801-0800 to request more information.

In order to process Membership Applications, a copy of Discharge Documents or DD214 must be provided at the time of applying. Once verified as eligible, the first year’s Membership Dues are FREE.
